Stringham Insurance Agency, Ltd. was founded in Mokena, Illinois by Dick and Mary Ann Stringham. The doors opened on February 15, 1980. The agency is licensed to sell insurance in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, but concentrates in Will, Cook, and DuPage counties in Illinois. They are long-time members of the Mokena Chamber of Commerce, the Homer Township Chamber of Commerce, the Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois and Insurance Agents and Brokers of America.
The Stringham focus is on personal lines, commercial lines, life, and disability income. Its legally adopted moniker of “Small Town Professionals!” is the basis for the agency’s operation. Service to customers and professionally offering much-needed products at a superior price is the agency hallmark!

Richard Stringham opened Stringham Insurance Agency in February, 1980, in Mokena, Illinois. The foundation of this family-run agency is customer service – providing the coverage needed at an affordable price.
A graduate of what is now St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, Dick spent nearly six years learning the business at Concordia Securities Co., Inc. in Evergreen Park, IL. He eventually left them as the agency manager and corporate Treasurer. Stringham Insurance Agency, Ltd. opened in February, 1980, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Professional. The thriving agency is based on service and professionalism. Dick is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Professional Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois, the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America, and the Joliet Association of Life Underwriters.
Active. Dick is a past president and elected Board Member of the Lockport Township High School Board of Education. He is the founder of the Lockport Township High School Foundation established to provide additional, charitable support to the high school district. In 2003, Dick received the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Illinois chapter of the National School Public Relations Association for his years of leadership in and service to the school district. In 2005, he was honored by the Lockport HS District by having a permanent scholarship named after him. Dick has also served as an elected commissioner of the Will County Board and Will County Forest Preserve District. He served on numerous commissions and committees casting a broad shadow on county government. Dick has also served the community in various capacities over the years including the Mokena Planning Commission, the Mokena Police Pension Board, the Mokena Fire Protection District Fire Prevention Board of Appeals, and as a member of the successful “Committee to Incorporate the Village of Homer Glen” in 2001…he was named a Village of Homer Glen “Founding Father” in 2007.
Successful. Dick Stringham is a multi-year member of Pekin Life’s “Inner Circle Club”, past member of Erie Family Life Insurance Company’s “Million Dollar Club”, past member of Economy Fire & Casualty’s “E-Club” and multi-time winner of Pekin Life's Key Award.
Personal. Most importantly, Dick and Mary Ann Stringham have been married for over 30 years. They have three grown daughters, two of whom are married, and two grandchildren.
Mary Ann Stringham, agency co-founder, is an active agent, officer, and partner. She, too, graduated from what is now St. Mary’s University of Minnesota with a degree in marketing. A people-person, Mary Ann was a professional at a Marsh, McLennan, & Co., subsidiary in Chicago, before leaving them to begin a family, obtain her insurance license, and help open Stringham Insurance Agency. Mary Ann has been serving Stringham Insurance clients continuously ever since, providing a professional, caring face for the agency. She also serves as secretary-treasurer of the corporation.
Raising three girls and working in the agency has kept Mary Ann on the go these past many years, but she has managed to remain active in their Church in a number of committees and organizations, and she was again elected President of the Parish Council. Mary Ann has also taught religious education classes and coached girls softball. A former Vice-President of the St. Mary’s University Alumni Association, Mary Ann was awarded the “Alumni Appreciation Award” from the Alumni Association. She represents the agency at the Mokena Chamber of Commerce and the Homer Township Chamber of Commerce.
An Iowa native, Mary Ann has been married to Dick for over 30 years. She is thrilled with her latest title of “Grandmother” after having been mother to three very active daughters (now grown) over the years. She loves to garden, cook, travel…and is working on her golf game.
Theresa Walsh has been a licensed insurance producer since joining the agency early 2004. Theresa has the distinction of being the second generation in the business. As Dick and Mary Ann’s oldest daughter she has been living with the insurance business virtually her entire life. A Western Illinois University alum, she majored in Economics and has a good customer service background. She has a wonderful empathy for the Stringham Insurance clientele and is abundantly knowledgeable. Stringham Insurance Agency congratulates Theresa for being honored by Pekin Life Insurance Company with a “Key” Award for life insurance.
Theresa and her husband, Larry, live in Elwood with their two sons. Embracing professionalism, Theresa is furthering her insurance education. Dick and Mary Ann are pleased to have Theresa active in the agency.

Peggy Riner joined Stringham Insurance Agency, Ltd. in March, 1999. A licensed agent, Peggy brings years of prior agency experience from a New Lenox insurance agency with her to Mokena. She fits right in embracing the agency’s registered service mark of “Small Town Professionals!”. Peggy is very detail-oriented and provides the follow-through that makes her a favorite with our clients. One client wrote:
“I chose your agency above any other due to the professionalism, courtesy, and honesty of Ms. Peggy Riner. Even though I spoke with Ms. Riner only briefly on a couple of occasions, I feel as though she is giving me the very best service she can. I feel confident and comfortable in dealing with her. If not for her, I might be with another agency. I just wanted to let you know she is doing an outstanding job for you.”
These comments are typical of the comments we usually hear about Peggy. She is a professional, knows her business, and works hard at taking care of Stringham Insurance Agency clients.
On a personal note, Peggy is married with a grown daughter who lives in Colorado with her husband. For recreation, Peggy creates cut glass projects, not the least of which adorns the Stringham Insurance Agency’s Mokena office.
Linda Butte came to Stringham Insurance Agency, Ltd. in May of 1998. She brings years of experience in health insurance claims and billing. Linda is the pleasant voice that normally greets callers to Stringham Insurance. She is an integral cog in the “wheel of service” that people expect when they deal with Stringham Insurance Agency. The exceptional staff at Stringham Insurance is built on having exceptional people like Linda Butte working on behalf of our customers. Her knowledge of billing and claims matters is pivotal when you deal with the large number of insurance companies that we represent.
Personally speaking, Linda’s two grown, married daughters have given her six grandchildren. They are the absolute joy of her life.
